Possible cut because of time constraints on the length of the album?? Makes me wonder I bought this CD specifically because it has Frank's famous version of Stardust - the one in which he sings the verse only.

Much admired but also very controversial when it came out in as a 7 inch single. I still have the single but it is getting a bit scratchy and is not very convenient to play - so I bought the CD. I do love what Frank and Costa did with Stardust. It is a landmark recording. The flip side on the 7 inch single was Kern's Yesterdays - which, is also on the album.

After Stardust it is probably the best track, although Sinatra inserts some irritating pauses in the lyrics. I do remember deciding not to buy the full album at the time it came out, because I had heard other tracks from it and I wasn't too impressed.

Having heard it again after 45 years or so, I feel that my original reservations were correct. Most of the arrangements are too bombastic and Frank takes several of the songs far too slowly.

He made better recordings of some of them in earlier years. The producers at Reprise were right in their original selection of the two tracks that made it to the single. They are by far the best thing on the album, and Stardust alone makes it worth the price of admission. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Overall, I can recommend this new release to any fan of quality music from the 60's - you won't be disappointed!

I'm almost speechless! One reviewer has said this is Sinatra's finest recorded achievement. Well, it's flawless beauty is up there with his best, as was evident on the s four album box set The Reprise Years where I think four recordings from this one album were included. Its nearest competitor in that collection's listing was "Sinatra's Sinatra". Sinatra at a peak - or should one say, another peak? You like music? You'll love Sinatra and Strings.

This is one of Sinatra's best most profound honest and most tender heartbreaking ballad albums that he ever produced. His voice is in perfect condition and displays all the unique facets and qualities that are the Sinatra staple with all the unsurpassed unrivalled Majesty that Sinatra has with a lyric and song. The songs are a superior variety of well known songs and lesser known ballads made all the more rich and great by Sinatra's renditions. Frank's phrasing and pronunciation of a lyric in this album is so supreme and no one can match the sensitivity and immense feeling and heartfelt emotion that he puts I to these songs I cannot recommend this album enough it is just exceptional and a truely masterful album that stands proud and tall in the great Sinatra pantheon and iconic legend.

I have virtually everything Sinatra recorded on Vinyl including this album which I have not played for many years. I therefore bought the CD and there is little I can add to what everybody else has written on these reviews.

We will never see the like of this artist again. His phrasing, intonation, diction and musicality is par excellence. I still get goose pimples when I hear his torch songs and, as a Jazz musician myself, revel in his up tempo numbers. Sheer Class!!

RIP the Master. I had the vinyl 12" which disappeared somewhere in a move, then saw it in the States and didn't buy it - bad move as couldn't get it in the UK.. Then lovely Amazon had it. What can I say - Sinatra at his very best with lush strings backing and some fabulous songs recorded in his own inimitable style.
