Fine songs which Ray made for the soundtrack of the motion picture 'Return to Waterloo'. Some appear here for the first time: The Shirt, a great song with a very funny story and with a surprisingly jazzy sound! All together a fine second CD, although there's no cohesion. I think it would have been better to re-release the soundtrack of 'Return to Waterloo' with these extra Ray Davies songs.
That collection would have suited better as a whole. Now collectors have to buy this CD for only a few missing songs. Besides this, it's value for your money, believe me. This is my first contact with The Kinks music, great trip, great band. Their sound is aunthentic and simple, but also powerfull. I recomend it. And first of all, Sorry for my bad english!!!!!!!! By his early teens Marley was back in West Kingston, living in a government-subsidized tenement in Trench Town, a desperately poor slum often compared to an open sewer. In the early s, while a schoolboy serving an apprenticeship as a welder along with fellow aspiring singer Desmond Dekker , Marley was exposed to the languid, jazz -infected shuffle-beat rhythms of ska , a Jamaican amalgam of American rhythm and blues and native mento folk- calypso strains then catching on commercially.
April 10, , Kingston. A huge overnight smash, it played an important role in recasting the agenda for stardom in Jamaican music circles. No longer did one have to parrot the stylings of overseas entertainers; it was possible to write raw, uncompromising songs for and about the disenfranchised people of the West Indian slums.
