Especially if I want to actually like them and or pass them along. Thank you. Loved reading this and it is really good that you do this sort of stuff and not just the big sellers. Pacific ocean blue by Dennis Wilson and The guilder palace of sin By the flying burrito brothers …. They were an incredibly intense live experience as well at the time.
RIP Jackie Leven. I have this album and three other including his solo albums, incredible, the entire album, picked it up and in greenwich Village New York in the early 80s, maybe late 70s. I am 56 and have been listening to all six of those albums since my teens with some regularity.
Both the beginning and Eden may be a subject to misinterpretation of dreams. My recollection pegs it at ? In any case, it stands as the greatest live album I have ever heard. A confluence of a great band, great songs, a wonderful venue and the love of the audience. So here are the results of my experimentation. Was I successful? I think so. The CD's I make are quite good. Along the way I learned some critical lessons Lesson 1: If the album is available on CD anywhere in the world, go ahead and buy it. On the other hand, in some instances the vinyl albums sound better than the CD's. In these cases, it may make sense to make a CD from the vinyl album. Lesson 2: This is one instance where you actually do need all the "computer power" you can get.
You are going to be repeatedly editing and manipulating files as large as MB. Just waiting for the files to read and write to the hard drive will often take several minutes. You can work with less-powerful equipment, but it will severely try your patience. Lesson 3: The speed and "quality" of your CD burner is not nearly as important as the type of sound card you have You are going to spend several hours dubbing and editing the CD tracks before you ever burn a CD.
How fast the final CD gets burned is the least of your problems. Your sound card, though, will have to make the one-time conversion of analog audio into a digital audio file and it will be the key component in the whole process. Lesson 4: You will have to practice and experiment to reduce noise in the dubbed music tracks. This will take a lot of time, but there is no way around it. Keep at it and you will have a CD with excellent sound.
I promise. So let's get going. The first thing I'll do is summarize the entire process, which is easily broken down into six basic steps. Then we'll examine each step of the process in detail. The six basic steps are:. Assemble appropriate software and hardware and test. Capture album audio as WAV files on computer hard drive. Normalize, filter, and equalize raw WAV files. Identify and copy individual tracks as separate WAV files.
Edit individual tracks fade-in, fade-out, etc. As I already said, you will want the best computer you can obtain. This is the fastest way to edit. Since you will be working with extremely large files, you also want the best hard drive s compatible with your machine. You will be tempted to give up on the process when you find that it takes several minutes for every minor change you make to a WAV file as the file is laboriously written to the hard drive.
I'm currently working on an audio file that was ripped from a live concert DVD. Yes, that's right This isn't big compared to the typical DVD file size, but it is still rather cumbersome to work with.
